Cette dernière forme possédée devrait dériver d'une forme *ihitl F.Karttunen transcrit ihîyôtl et reconstitue ainsi l'origine de ce mot: forme reduplicative qui implique la forme non attestée *îyotl ou le verbe également non attesté *ihi, 'respirer', redupl. sur î, 'prendre une inspiration' or ce dernier verbe existe bien en Nahuatl et a le sens de 'boire'. 'ihîyôtl', serait par ailleurs en relation avec ehêcatl. La voyelle longue ds la deuxième syllabe de ihîyôtl serait abondamment attestée par Carochi Arte.
